Do you have the passion to lead a team whose goal is to make a difference in the lives of people who have experienced domestic violence or sexual assault?  The Family Center, located in Wisconsin Rapids, WI, guided by survivor voices, works through education and community involvement to eliminate violence and provide safety and transitional services for people victimized by abuse.  The Center is currently recruiting an Executive Director.  The ideal candidate will possess a combination of:  progressive vision, strong leadership and mentoring, experience with domestic violence/sexual assault, experience in financial management and grant application process.

Executive Director—Family Center, Inc. of Wisconsin Rapids


Working closely with staff, volunteers and the Board of Directors, the Executive Director is responsible for strategic planning, resource development, public relations and the overall management of the Family Center.  The Executive Director serves as the public face of the agency to funding sources, government officials, donors and the community at large.


The Executive Director provides leadership to staff, volunteers and the Board of Directors to continuously improve the agency’s viability and effectiveness in fulfilling its mission:  “The Family Center, guided by survivor voices, works through education and community involvement to eliminate violence and provide safety for all people.”



  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social or Human Services or related field; Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Minimum three years management/supervisory experience, preferably in a not for profit organization, working with a Board of Directors.
  • Knowledge of domestic violence dynamics and issues
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated success in grant writing and fund raising.
  • Strong financial management skills
  • Excellent written, oral and listening communication skills.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with Board of Directors, staff, volunteers, donors and other stakeholders.



This is a salaried position with a minimum forty (40) hour work week.  The ability to work flexible hours is necessary with the majority of hours performed during the day.  Speaking engagements, meetings and supervisory duties will require working some nights and weekends and will include travel.



  • Responsible for day to day operations, compliance with applicable regulations and laws and grant requirements, and overall fiscal performance of the agency.
  • Maintain and evaluate effectiveness and efficiency of programs and services in addressing current and emerging needs of people affected by domestic abuse and sexual assault.
  • In conjunction with the Board of Directors, establish long and short term agency goals and objectives and oversee progress toward achieving them.
  • Overall responsibility for effectively staffing the agency, including hiring, supervision, development and evaluation of staff, including annual performance review process.
  • Maintain an adequate funding base to sustain services and support program growth addressing emerging needs.
  • Research and carry out funding initiatives including grant writing, and securing government and community philanthropic funding.

Oversee  fiscal performance of agency.  Fiscal responsibilities include:

  • Develop and maintain annual budget and monitor financial operation of agency
  • Review and oversee maintenance of financial records, provide accurate and timely financial reports to the Board, funding sources and community organizations as required or appropriate.
  • Perform short and long term fiscal planning to ensure continued stability of the agency, making sure resource utilization is consistent with the mission and goals of the agency.
  • Ensure proper administration of grants, and accurate and timely grant reports.
  • Act as a liaison between the Board of Directors and staff/volunteers/clients:
  • Actively participate in all Board and committee meetings.
  • In conjunction with Board Chair, prepare agendas that align with agency strategies and objectives and in advance of meetings, provide supporting materials for board members to engage in effective discussions and planning.
  • Provide program and operational information to the Board.
  • Implement the decisions/directives of the Board and routinely report on progress toward those objectives.
  • Participate in regional and statewide efforts that address issues of domestic abuse and sexual assault.
  • Develop, maintain and expand cooperative working relationships with other community, state and county agencies or programs that enhance the safety and service delivery for victims of domestic abuse and sexual assault.
  • Maintain a comprehensive community awareness and education program on issues of domestic abuse and sexual assault.
  • Maintain strong relationships with donors and donor organizations.
  • Active involvement in planning fund raising or public relations events.
  • Work closely with board to develop and implement fund development goals and strategies.
  • Public Relations and Fund Development responsibilities include:
  • Provide direct supervision for designated staff positions complete an annual performance evaluation and provide ongoing training and development.
  • Maintain an environment that is supportive and respectful of clients, personnel and other individuals and community partners.
  • Ensure that the building and all organizational assets are secure and well-maintained.
