SUMMARY:Ageism and Abuse in Later Life
DESCRIPTION:Join Victoria Ferguson from the National Clearinghouse on Abuse in Later Life to explore the intersections of ageism\, domestic abuse\, and gender-based violence.   \nOlder survivors of domestic violence\, sexual assault and stalking face unique and complex issues as they navigate safety and healing from abuse. These factors make it critical for advocates from domestic violence and sexual assault agencies to be prepared to be age-inclusive in their outreach and services\, so older adults have access to the services that survivors from all ages do.    \nAgeism is a key unique barrier facing older adults\, which can not only put them at greater risk for abuse\, but also prevent them from getting the services and support they need. That’s why it is imperative that service providers can identify and combat ageism\, while implementing practices to improve accessibility and inclusion of older survivors.   \nThe National Clearinghouse on Abuse in Later Life and End Abuse’s Children and Youth Program are teaming up to lead this discussion! DESCRIPTION:Diverse & Resilient’s  2nd annual LGBTQ Mental Health Summit! \nFull registration is closed\, however\, to see ALOK at 4:00 PM registration and payment are needed! \nWe are excited to bring ALOK to the Fox Cities for what will be an amazing day of education\, advocacy and celebration. Whether you are a member of the community\, provider\, educator\, or ally\, join us in solidarity to support the LGBTQ community. \nLGBTQ people experience alarmingly high rates of mental health challenges due to a multitude of heightened risk factors related to the stress caused by discrimination\, stigma and bias in all its forms. LGBTQ youth and adults face an extraordinarily elevated risk of suicidal thoughts and behaviors. \nJoin us as we come together to support the LGBTQ+ community and build up protective factors\, including social supports and access to LGBTQ-affirming mental health and medical care and other supports. \nAt the Summit\, you can:\n• deepen your understanding of issues facing the LGBTQ+ community;\n• network with others in our community and from across the state;\n• learn what organizations and individuals are doing to advance the mental health\,\nsafety\, fairness\, and inclusion in the LGBTQ+ community in Wisconsin; and\,\n• join efforts to ensure LGBTQ+ protections in Wisconsin\n• earn Continuing Education (CE) credits\, according to DSPS Administrative Code MPSW19. \nIn addition to the planned sessions\, the conference will feature an art space\, where attendees can take a take a break and enjoy a calm\, self-directed space for emotional regulation.
