Transformative in Action: Advocates & Multidisciplinary Teams Quarterly Convening

Wednesday, July 19, 2023 10:00 am - 11:30 am

Join us to talk about Economic Justice & the Beloved Community. Economic Justice is a world view that:

  • Acknowledges we live in a (global) society founded on racial, patriarchal capitalism;
  • Elevates liberation from violent economic systems over individual responsibility;
  • Integrates the impacts of structural power dynamics when improving individuals’ access to economic resources;
  • Situates our work with survivors in context of their individual & community needs.

So what can we do? Identify opportunities to build economic justice and liberation in the Beloved Community

Why? Survivors must not be forced to choose between financial instability or their emotional/physical safety. Most survivors experience financial coercion or abuse. Under-resourced communities & historically exploited/marginalized populations are ALSO more vulnerable to the impacts of systemic violence and intergenerational trauma. One form of violence compounds and perpetuates the other.

How? Address root causes of economic injustice and dismantle inequities in social determinants of health. Connect impacted survivors with harm reduction & wealth-building tools. Use storytelling as advocacy to engage social justice change for economic liberation across communities.
