Coalition Chronicles 39-1: Empowering Survivors in Wisconsin – Your Right to Vote & Be Safe

Read the latest edition of Coalition Chronicles here!

We all know that 2020 is a presidential election year. But how big an impact can we – as victims and survivors of violence and allies in this anti-violence movement – really make? What options do we have for voter engagement, and how can we ensure safety to those who need it most? Who is already doing the important work in our state around voter engagement, and where can we find accurate information about elections?

In the latest issue of the Coalition Chronicles, we showcase groups who are working to mobilize communities, ensure access to the political process, and amplify voices that have been marginalized in Wisconsin. We explore aspects of the political process that may have a direct impact on the lives of those who have experienced violence. We hope that the many links to information and resources will assist voters in our local communities to exercise their right to vote safely.

Important Notice Regarding the Safe at Home Program and COVID-19:

At this time (3.18.2020), it is important to note that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all Safe at Home program staff is primarily teleworking and in-office operations will be limited to processing Safe at Home participant mail and changes of address. Because of the highly secure physical and IT structure of the Safe at Home office, this change will prevent Safe at Home staff from enrolling new participants until further notice. Any applications received on or before March 18th will be processed as usual. In the meantime, if you are working with clients seeking to enroll in Safe at Home please continue to provide safety planning services as you are able and submit applications to Safe at Home by fax or email. Please tell these clients that Safe at Home will process these applications as soon as we are able to securely do so, but to expect some delay. Updates on Safe at Home operational status may also be found on the Safe at Home website at www.SafeAtHomeWI.gov.
