Older survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking face unique and complex issues as they navigate safety and healing from abuse. These factors make it critical for advocates from domestic violence and sexual assault agencies to be prepared to be age-inclusive in their outreach and services, so older adults have access to the services that survivors from all ages do.
Ageism is a key unique barrier facing older adults, which can not only put them at greater risk for abuse, but also prevent them from getting the services and support they need. That’s why it is imperative that service providers can identify and combat ageism, while implementing practices to improve accessibility and inclusion of older survivors.
