This training is designed specifically for DV victim advocates who want to better understand the role of the Guardian ad Litem (GAL). Presenter Chris Olsen will share her expertise and recent experience working as a GAL, alongside End Abuse’s Kari Niesen-LaScala, for this interactive training.
Participants will learn when and how a GAL is appointed, requirements to become a GAL in family law cases, and responsibilities of a GAL. We will discuss factors in child custody and placement determinations, strategies and practical considerations for GALs when domestic abuse is present, and more, including group work on case scenarios.
