Diverse & Resilient advocates have helped dozens of people without attorneys pursue legal name and gender marker changes. This session will provide advocates with knowledge and strategies on how to assist survivors to properly self-file for a legal name change, legal gender marker change, and other ways to update identity documents.
Advocates will learn about standard and confidential avenues to legal name change, how and with what agencies Wisconsin survivors can change their gender marker on documents, how to work with their county court system, and how to safety plan and assist with these processes without giving legal advice. We will also explore common scenarios and answer frequently asked questions.
This webinar is the newest in a series provided by End Abuse and Diverse and Resilient to support the grant requirements of the Department of Children and Families (DCF) Domestic Abuse Program. The series offers a wonderful opportunity to reflect on organization practices and culture, and to build bridges between existing knowledge and skills and innovative, emerging practices, while also meeting the DCF training requirement. Find recorded webinars and information about the series at End Abuse’s Outreach webpage.
