Position Opening – EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Full-time – Salaried Exempt; Pay: $62,000 to $75,000

About HELP:

Established in 1979, HELP of Door County, Inc., is seeking a passionate, collaborative Executive Director who can embrace its work and lead a small, gifted staff. The ideal candidate will be committed to social justice for all victims of domestic violence, a good listener, a strong communicator, flexible, and committed both to HELP’s mission and to the goal of building a safer, more peaceful Door County.

 

Primary responsibilities

Community and Public Relations

  • Provides vision and leadership for staff, board, partners, and those in the broader community concerned with the prevention and intervention of domestic abuse.
  • Acts as a spokesperson to promote the work of HELP and its mission within the community, with funders, donors, allied nonprofits and systems, and stakeholders within the Door County community.
  • Engages in public speaking at community events, with the media, and at public forums to promote the work and mission of HELP of Door County.
  • Develops and maintains open communication and supportive working relationships with community leaders, groups, organizations, funders, and donors.
  • Oversees marketing efforts and social media outreach efforts – is engaged with and maintains high visibility in the community.

Organizational Leadership and Board Governance

  • Supports the Board of Directors, including the ongoing work of Board recruitment, engagement, committee work, and leadership development; Ensures that the Board has the tools and information needed to fulfill its fiduciary responsibilities.
  • Provides leadership in developing and implementing organizational plans, in concert with HELP’s long-standing goals and objectives related to inclusiveness, diversity, and dismantling supremacy and oppression that is at the root of violence.
  • Maintains a current knowledge of significant developments and trends in the domestic abuse movement by participating in statewide convenings to maintain a knowledge of trends and best practices.

Financial Planning, Management and Fund Development

  • Works collaboratively with the Board and financial partners to grow the funding base of the organization including grant writing – garnering resources for operations and growth.
  • In collaboration with the Operations/Fiscal Manager and the Board of Directors develops and implements an annual budget.
  • Ensures that adequate and sustainable funds are available to successfully carry out work.
  • Leads successful fundraising with individual donors, foundations, and government sources

Human Resources Development

  • Maintains a climate that attracts, retains, and motivates a diverse, quality staff.
  • Oversees the coaching and mentoring of staff, as needed, to ensure staff possess the skill sets needed to successfully complete their duties and responsibilities.
  • Oversees recruitment, employment, and release of paid staff, consultants, and volunteers; Oversees the development of job descriptions, and implementation of regular performance evaluations and ensures that sound human resource practices are in place.

Other Administrative

  • Ensures that the organization complies with all contracts and legal obligations.
  • Responsible for maintenance and management of property and physical assets of HELP of Door County, Inc.
  • Implement outcomes-based measurements of program effectiveness.
  • Is responsible for maintaining all organizational records.

Qualifications

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent Life Experience;
  • Knowledge and understanding of the social issues that contribute to domestic violence;
  • Five years’ experience leading a nonprofit or in equivalent management;
  • Grant writing experience and knowledge;
  • Experience overseeing and understanding the finances of a nonprofit organization;
  • Ability to inspire others, and communicate effectively even in difficult situations, bringing stories and events to life for others to understand the complexity of domestic violence;
  • Experience forging, training, and leading a staff team and engaging with the board of directors;
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills; presence and confidence in public settings;
  • Willingness to play a key role in fundraising and an appetite for building and sustaining relationships with key funders and donors;
  • Exceptional organizational skills, including knowledge of current technology and applications such as MS Office Suite.
