Hmong Advocacy Coordinator

Primary responsibilities

The Hmong Advocacy Coordinator provides culturally competent, bi-lingual services to Hmong victims of abuse; education/training to the community on related issues, and close collaboration with resources/agencies.  Work performed under the supervision of the Hmong Services Coordinator.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma, BS/BA degree a plus
  • 1 year experience working with families or individuals in a supportive manner
  • Ability to speak Hmong fluently.
  • Knowledge of Hmong culture and community.
  • Demonstrated understanding of domestic and sexual violence or willingness to learn and apply generally accepted theories, standards and practices of the field.
  • Ability to listen well to others and remain nonjudgmental.
  • A good understanding of a confidential counseling/advocacy relationship.
  • Good communication (oral and written), organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team.
  • Ability to manage individual component with related grant requirements/reporting.
  • Ability to define problems and generate feasible solutions. Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, email & Internet or sufficient skills/knowledge to learn quickly.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Dependable, strong work ethic.
