Overnight Advocate – Domestic Abuse Intervention Services (DAIS)

Full-time 3rd shift, Sunday-Thursday 11pm-7am

Pay: $21.42 per hour + $2.50 per hour shift differential for hours worked between 11pm-7am + benefits

 

Overnight Advocate’s at DAIS rotate weekly between providing direct services in the 24/7 emergency shelter and providing crisis response services to individuals utilizing the DAIS Help Line and Text Line services.  Overnight Advocates work to ensure that victims of intimate partner violence and their children staying in our 24/7 emergency shelter have a safe dignified, and empowered experience as they work to address the impact of intimate partner violence in their lives and in addition are often the first point of contact for clients seeking access to our services through our 24/7 Help Line program (phone and text), where they assist victims and survivors, their friends, families, and other concerned community members impacted by domestic violence issues. Primary responsibilities

  • Provide trauma informed direct services to victims of domestic violence and callers to our helpline.
  • Maintaining cleanliness in shelter common areas, including the shelter kitchen; engaging clients to participate in cleaning efforts; assisting clients with daily living needs, and cleaning and preparing rooms for client intakes.
  • Understanding and utilizing principles of trauma informed care and the empowerment philosophy of advocacy to support clients.
  • Conducting shelter intakes and shelter orientations
  • Communicating shelter rules and communal living guidelines to clients and addressing difficulties or problems that arise
  • Providing crisis counselling and support, personalized safety planning, and community resource referrals.
  • Monitoring surveillance cameras and responding to urgent or emergency situations by following appropriate protocols.
  • Maintaining professionalism and professional boundaries with clients and staff alike
  • Demonstrating humility

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • A minimum of two years of experience working with trauma survivors required.
  • Experience in a residential facility setting strongly preferred.
  • Experience mentoring and supporting team members preferred .
  • Knowledge of domestic violence issues preferred.
  • Experience in crisis intervention preferred.
  • Excellent computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office preferred.
  • Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship required.
  • Bilingual preferred.
