Sojourner Advocate – Community Domestic Abuse Advocacy Program (CDAAP)
Full-time (40 hours)
Shift: Monday-Friday, Flexible hours but mostly first shift
Sojourner Family Peace Center (SFPC) employs dedicated, hardworking professionals who want to be of service to others and make a difference in Milwaukee and surrounding communities.
The Sojourner Advocate – CDAAP (Community Domestic Abuse Advocacy Program) works with clients whom have been referred by Milwaukee Police Department for follow-up support and services after a Domestic Violence incident has been reported. This advocate provides on-going support, case management, court support, referrals to community resources and more.
The candidate we seek must be comfortable in assisting survivors amidst a crisis, trauma and life altering events involving domestic violence, as well as addressing any identified safety concerns. Experience providing compassionate, non-judgmental care and support to people who may exhibit symptoms related to trauma, behavioral health illness and substance use is required. Must have the ability to calm in stressful circumstances, quickly build rapport with clients and also work well with SFPC staff and outside community partners.
Responsibilities
The Sojourner Advocate-CDAAP will be assigned to a police district and will work primarily with victims of intimate partner violence but may also be working with victims of family violence, on a case by case basis, from diverse backgrounds to help them develop a safety plan and access community resources. The advocate will work with clients either individually and/or in groups, as needed, to offer information, support, education and other needed referrals and services. Additionally, this position will work closely with a team of law enforcement, prosecutors, probation/parole agents and other advocates to develop and implement protocols for proactively responding to family violence at a neighborhood level and promoting and enhancing victim safety.
