Supervisor of Shelter and Hotline
Full-time, 40 hours per week
Participation in rotating on-call coverage of nights and weekends
Under the direction of the Associate Director of Advocacy this provides direct supervision to Sojourner advocates, interns and volunteers within the shelter and hotline programs.
The candidate we seek must be comfortable supervising Advocates who assist clients in the midst of life altering events involving domestic violence, family violence and human trafficking. Experience providing compassionate non-judgmental support to people who may exhibit symptoms related to trauma, behavioral health illness and substance use is required. Must remain calm in stressful circumstances and quickly build rapport with clients.
How will your days be spent?
-Providing oversight for the shelter and hotline and ensure programs are adequately staffed and that hotline calls are handled in accordance with agency guidelines
-Ensuring health and safety of shelter facilities
-Promoting partnership services and support domestic violence survivors and residents of the emergency shelter by offering crisis intervention, supportive counseling, education and support
-Participating as a member of the Sojourner Management team
-Facilitating collaborative working relationships with other SFPC programs and community partners
-Fostering a solution-focused environment that is fair and consistent, with the intention to engage and retain clients
-Maintaining a professional culture that promotes teamwork with empathy for clients
What are we looking for?
-Must possess basic knowledge of de-escalation techniques and ability to demonstrate when necessary.
-Have working knowledge and ability to perform Danger Assessment, LAP and other relevant screening tools.
-Caring personality with the ability to maintain positive work relationships with diverse groups of people.
-Respectful and accepting of the choices of others and ability to inform clients about choices without exercising undue influence in regards to their decisions.
-Professionals who can remain calm and helpful when others are in crisis.
-Bachelor’s degree in human services or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience
-Three to five years of related supervisory experience
-Two year’s experience working with clients who have experienced interpersonal violence, and sensitivity to the needs and concerns of, persons who are homeless, and the ability to be comfortable working with persons of all socioeconomic, religious, and ethnic backgrounds in a non-judgmental manner.
-Excellent written and verbal communication skills with an ability to facilitate reflective and educational discussion with individuals and groups.
-Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups of people and to positively influence change.
-Demonstrated ability to understand and maintain client confidentiality
-Knowledge of domestic violence and service systems
-Experience in crisis intervention, behavior management, and/or conflict resolution
-Good organizational skills, including the ability to coordinate several projects simultaneously
